Terms of the Game
1) Ace- A serve that the receiver does not hit back, giving a point to the server.
2) Back-hand- A stroke in which the player hits across the body, starting on the side of the body opposite of the hand holding the racket
3) Back-wall- The rear wall
4) Dead ball- A ball that's no longer in play
5) Defensive shot- A shot used to keep the rally going, and to get the opposing player out of position
6) Fault- An infraction of the rules by the server while serving the ball. Two consecutive faults result in loss of serve
6) Forehand- A stroke in which the player hits the ball on the side of the body of the hand holding the racket
7) Hinder- Interference by a player getting in the way of the other player so they don't have a clear shot to hit the ball to the front wall
8) Killshot- A shot hit hard and low with the purpose of making the ball hit the floor twice before the other player has a chance to return it
9) Offensive shot- A shot used to try to end a rally
11) Plum- A promising set up or offensive opportunity
12) Rally- An alternating exchange of shots after the serve that is continued until play ends
13) Receiving line- The line 5 feet behind the short line that the receiver must stay behind to return the shot
14) Serve- Shot used to put the ball into play
15) Service box- The box the server must stand in until the ball is put into play
16) Short line- The line (20 feet from the wall) that the ball must cross when first put into play
17) Skip ball- Any low shot that hits the floor before reaching the front wall
